Dr. Koshman

We lost our beloved advisor, Dr. Sherry Koshman, on May 1, 2011. She was an assistant professor at the School of Information Sciences, University of Pittsburgh. She passed away at the young age of 46.

Dr. Koshman grew up in Theodore, Saskatchewan, Canada. She received her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Saskatchewan and her Master’s degree at McGill University in Montreal. After earning her Ph.D. at PITT iSchool in 1997, she worked as an information retrieval and software testing consultant for quality assurance and large-scale product implementation projects in the telecommunications and health insurance industries for several years. In 2005, she joined the faculty of the iSchool where she conducted research and taught courses in information visualization, information architecture, and related areas. She was elected as the Chair of LIS Doctoral Studies in 2008. A highly focused and energetic scholar, Dr. Koshman has touched the lives of many students.
