Introduction to Information Technologies (Core Course)
This foundations course introduces digital data representation, digital media, open source software, library automation, CMS, networking, and web design concepts for libraries and archives.  The emphasis is on developing a solid understanding of technologies used for digitization, storage, computer security, web development, and Library 2.0 applications, such as blogs, wikis, and virtual worlds that are featured in current library environments.
Course Goals
  • To increase the foundation of basic technical knowledge for library and archives management.
  • To analyze the digital and social life cycle of information through technology.
  • To evaluate how Web 2.0 technologies are employed by library and archives.
  • To critique the social, political, and ethical impact of technology on the professional community.
  • To prepare students for additional IT courses, MLIS courses, and future work environments.
